For over eight years Chabad in Newark, New Jersey, operated an afternoon Hebrew school for children who attended public school. Rabbi Sholom Ber Gordon directed the school.

In 1951 the requests of many parents who sought a Jewish education for their children, being impressed with the level of education, required the establishment of a full time Hebrew Day School. That year the school was founded.

This picture was taken in the early years of the day school.
